The demand for the fourth dose (D4) of vaccination against Covid-19 for people aged 40 and over at the Fortaleza Events Center drive-thru was considered high in the afternoon of Tuesday 21. The release of the vaccine booster for this public in the capital was announced this Monday 20 by the Department of Health of Ceará (Sesa).

People aged 50 and over have been allowed to receive the fourth dose of the vaccine since the beginning of this month. At the Events Center, cars formed long queues at the drive-thru on Tuesday 21st, with people seeking to be vaccinated against the disease. In addition to those seeking D4, adolescents and young people also showed up to take the third dose (D3).

According to data from the City Hall of Fortaleza, 186,285 people in the capital received the fourth dose of the immunizing agent until Sunday 19. In addition to the event center, the vaccine booster is also offered at the mall, Iguatemi, Rio Mar Fortaleza and Rio Mar Kennedy, in addition to Sesi Parangaba and health posts that have a Covid-19 vaccination room.

Importance of reinforcing the vaccination schedule

Francisco Cleiton Freitas, 48, was one of those who requested the fourth dose of the vaccine at the Events Center on the first day after release for people aged 40 and over. With the increase in Covid-19 cases in some states of the country, including Ceará, he considers it important to strengthen the vaccination schedule against the disease, since, according to him, “vaccines save many lives”.

At 43, Luciana Barroso also tried to reinforce the vaccination schedule with the fourth dose in the Event Center drive on Tuesday 21. “If you have ten doses, I will take ten. The important thing is that “We protect ourselves and protect ourselves and others. I was waiting for the release for the over 40s,” he said.

Carlos Freire, 41, also took the fourth dose of the vaccine at the same location shortly after Sesa released the new age group. “Since the first dose, when it was my turn, I always took it on the right dates. It opened today 40 years ago and I’m already here. Vaccination is very important for us and for others, for this pandemic to end soon,” he said.

The fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the state has been released by Sesa for people over 80 since March this year. In April, the age range was widened to include seniors aged 70 and institutionalized seniors aged 60 and over. In May, the recall was launched for people over the age of 60. At the beginning of June, people over 50 began to receive D4.

According to the latest report from the Municipal Health Directorate (SMS), held on Sunday 19, around 618,000 people did not return to vaccination centers to receive booster doses. Of these, 451,178 adults have already reached the minimum term to receive the third dose and 166,807 could have already received the fourth dose, since they have exceeded the four months of D3.

Unscheduled booster shot

The application of the fourth dose (D4) of the vaccine against Covid-19 in the Capital takes place without the need for prior scheduling, in free on-demand mode, in places that offer vaccines, according to the daily calendar published on the website of the City Council of Fortaleza.

When attending vaccination sites in the Capital, it is however necessary to present an identity document with photo, CPF, National Health Card (CNS), proof of address and vaccination card against Covid-19, including previously taken doses.
