Hubert, Mary (Clifford), 84, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Friday, April 28 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Campus. The second child of Bernard and Eleanor (Laing) Clifford, she was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 10, 1938. She grew up in Worcester with her siblings on Prudential Road in what was then nestled in an ideal pastoral setting of woods and of fields. . She graduated from Ascension High School in 1957. While taking business classes, she began a career in the insurance industry, starting with State Mutual Life Assurance Company.
While raising five children, Mary continued to work on and off until she resumed a full-time career with several companies, including The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, Allmerica Financial Life Insurance and Annuity Company and Derby and Company. Mary specialized in pension plan administration and throughout her career she continued to take specialized courses to advance her knowledge and service to clients.
Mary had been a voluminous reader since childhood and was happiest to immerse herself in a new novel. His interests were varied and often associated with the community of family and friends. She belonged to many bowling leagues and excelled at playing darts in Worcester. She was a member and Eucharistic minister of St. Peter’s Church. A fan of knitting and crocheting, she loved making gifts for her children and grandchildren. She loved being near the ocean first as a child at her family cabin in Rocky Nook, Kingston, MA and later on Cape Cod.
Lovingly, Mary was proud of the accomplishments and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who now mourn her loss. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Chapman (Mickey) of Rutland, MA; son, Paul Hubert of Rutland, MA; daughter, MaryAnne Gay (Michael) of Oxford, MA; son, Dennis Hubert (Danielle) of Bradenton, Florida; She was predeceased by her son Wayne Hubert who died in 2010. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Tara Beliveau; Tanya McGee (Larry); Tyler Chapman; Christine Cintron (Carlos); David Hubert; Matthew Hubert; Jennifer Hubert; Malek Gay (Paige); Margaret Gay. Eight great-grandchildren: Alec Cintron; Anthony Cintron; Christophe Cintron; Keith Mantha; Savanna Beliveau; Kyle Norman; Kaylee Kuczka; McGee Rider. 2 great-great-grandchildren: Cory and Xavier Cintron. She is survived by her brother Lawrence Clifford of Chestnut Hill, MA; sisters Deborah O’Connor of Worcester, MA and Elizabeth Clifford of Charlestown, MA; She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Clifford and Eleanor Clifford. She leaves cherished nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester. A visitation for friends and relatives will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the service at Callahan Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester MA. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church.
