State Auto Insurance Review 2023 - Forbes Advisor

State Auto sells the following types of auto insurance that include a standard policy:

Liability insurance

Liability auto insurance covers medical expenses and property damage you cause to others in a car accident. Liability insurance also pays for your legal fees and defense costs if you are sued due to the accident.

Uninsured/underinsured motorists

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage pays for your medical expenses and those of your passengers if a driver who does not have automobile liability insurance or does not have enough liability insurance (underinsured motorist) bumps into you. Uninsured Motorist Property Damage pays for the damage to your car if it is hit by an uninsured driver.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Personal injury protection covers your medical expenses and those of your passengers if you are injured in a car accident, regardless of who caused the accident. PIP also covers lost wages and substitute services for tasks you cannot perform due to your injuries, such as childcare.

Medical payments (MedPay)

Medical expense insurance covers your medical expenses and those of your passengers, regardless of who is responsible for the accident. MedPay is usually provided in small amounts, such as $1,000 or $5,000.

Collision coverage

Auto collision insurance pays for damage to your car caused by a car accident, regardless of fault. Collision insurance also covers damage to your vehicle if you hit an object, such as a pole or fence.

Full coverage

Comprehensive auto insurance pays for theft and damage to your car caused by non-collision events, such as vandalism, fire, falling objects, collision with an animal, and storm damage .
