Port Coquitlam has called for food trucks to come to town for the summer in hopes of livening up a popular downtown park.
Port Coquitlam is calling for food truck vendors to come to town.
In a statement released today (July 20), the city said it wants to start having mobile restaurants at Lions Park in downtown Port Coquitlam.
The plan is to have a food truck at a designated location in the parking lot to provide convenient outdoor dining for park visitors through the end of September.
The location will be a flat, hard surface for parking a truck, and will provide good visibility, safe access for customers and limit the impact on park users.
According to the statement, a food truck may operate at Lions Park (2300 Lions Way) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Vendors will choose their own hours of operation between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. The program will run from July 28 to September 30.
PoCo will consider extending the days based on the success of the program, the city statement said.
Do you have a food truck? What do you want to know
Any food truck or cart operator who meets the basic requirements is welcome to apply for desired dates over the summer; space will generally be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with consideration to ensure a mix of food options.
Special Event Business Licenses are available to all food truck vendors, including out-of-town businesses for the day for $25.
The project aims to support opportunities for food trucks with:
- A streamlined and simplified application process;
- A designated location for a food truck
- A continuous supply of candidates
In accordance with current requirements for catering trucks operating at special events, all catering trucks will be required to meet the following requirements:
- Health approval (Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, etc.)
- Greater Vancouver Fire Chief’s Association (GVFCA) Inspection Sticker
- Automobile liability insurance with a minimum liability of $5 million with ICBC confirmation of auto insurance coverage.
Food trucks operating in Lions Park will be required to carry $5 million in liability insurance naming the city as an additional insured.
Interested vendors can apply online at the City of Port Coquitlam website.
