WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP NEWS RELEASE
(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our major traffic violations and issue one weekly bulletin.
On April 13, 2023, at approximately 12:15 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a black sedan on Brock Road South, Puslinch. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Hamilton driver was charged with driving while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offenses Court on July 19, 2023.
On April 14, 2023 at approximately 9:15 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police commenced a commercial motor vehicle inspection of a commercial van on Wellington Road 39, Guelph/Eramosa. As a result of the investigation, an Elora business is facing HTA charges including Vehicle License – Failure to Display Proof of Inspection Sticker and Overweight Vehicle – Violation of License.
On April 14, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a green sedan on Highway 23, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old Kitchener man was charged with operating while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on June 6, 2023.
On April 14, 2023, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police began a commercial vehicle inspection of a white dump truck on Maple Street in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old Oakville driver is facing numerous charges of HTA, including operating a dangerous vehicle – commercial motor vehicle, failure to turn in the completed daily inspection report and failure to ensure that the daily inspection report is correctly completed. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offenses Court on July 19, 2023.
On April 14, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member initiated a commercial motor vehicle inspection of a blue commercial van on Wellington Road 19, Center Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 55-year-old Grand Valley driver and a Grand Valley business face charges of HTA, including failure to deliver completed daily inspection report and failure to deliver completed daily inspection report. daily inspection completed. On April 14, 2023 Wellington County Provincial Police initiated a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on Victoria Road North, Guelph. As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old Rockwood driver is facing HTA charges including Overweight Vehicle – Violation of Permit 5700 and No Clear View to the Rear.
On April 16, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a white pickup truck on Anne Street, Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 71-year-old Harriston driver was charged with driving under suspension contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offenses Court in Guelph on July 19, 2023.
On April 17, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Wellington County OPP member commenced a commercial motor vehicle inspection of a commercial van and trailer on Belsyde Avenue East, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 72-year-old Belwood driver and a Belwood business face charges of HTA, including failure to submit a completed daily inspection report and use of a Commercial Vehicle – No valid CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration) certificate. A total of six HTA offenses were identified.
On April 17, 2023, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a gray sedan on Scotland Street, Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old Wellington Center driver was charged with driving while suspended, operating a motor vehicle – no currently validated license, using an unauthorized plate for the vehicle and failing to notify a change of address contrary to the HTA Additionally, the driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA). The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offenses Court on July 19, 2023.
On April 17, 2023 at approximately 4:00 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member undertook a commercial motor vehicle inspection of a commercial van on Wellington Road 7, Pilkington. As a result of the investigation, Arthur’s business faces HTA charges including Vehicle Operating Permit – Failure to Display Evidence Inspection Sticker and Failure to Ensure Report daily inspection sheet is correctly completed. Seven violations of the ETS were identified.
On April 18, 2023, at approximately 8 a.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a white station wagon on Wellington Road 18, Elora. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old vehicle owner from Fergus was charged with operating a motor vehicle license without insurance contrary to the CAIA and operating a motor vehicle – no plate validation contrary to the HTA Defendant is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offenses Court – Guelph on July 19, 2023.
On April 18, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a black sedan on Elora Street South, Harriston. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Brockton driver was charged with driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle – without a license, unlike the HTA. On April 19, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a gray sedan on Highway 6, Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old driver from Peterborough was charged with driving under suspension contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offenses Court in Guelph on July 19, 2023.
On April 19, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a red van on the 5e Line, Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old driver from Clifford was charged with driving under suspension contrary to the HTA. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offenses Court in Guelph on July 19, 2023.
On April 19, 2023, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a red pickup truck on Walker Street in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Springfield driver was charged with driving under suspension, operating a motor vehicle – failure to display two plates, operating a motor vehicle – currently not licensed valid and failure to notify a change of address, contrary to the HTA Defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offenses Court on July 19, 2023.
On April 19, 2023, at approximately 8:15 p.m., a Wellington County OPP member arrested the driver of a red pickup truck on Union Street West in Fergus. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with driving with coated windshield – obstructed view contrary to the HTA
Anyone charged with Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood) or Non-Compliance with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative License Suspension (ADLS) and impoundment of 7 days vehicle according to the law.
Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and 30-day driver’s license suspension as per law.
